Our story

B.A.D.D.I.E. is more than a brand — it is a movement. A community. A mirror held up to every woman who has ever looked at her reflection and struggled to find herself staring back. We are a collective built on confidence, elegance, and the courage it takes to walk boldly in a world that does not always make space for women navigating hair loss.

We stand for the woman who is hiding. The woman who has not yet told her partner, her family, or her closest friends what she is going through. The woman who pulls her hat down a little lower before she walks out the door. The woman who is grieving something the world tells her is “just hair” — but she knows it is so much more than that.

You are seen here. You are safe here. And you are not alone.

How It Began

B.A.D.D.I.E. was founded by Shonté Johnson, a woman who knows this journey intimately, not from the outside looking in, but from the quiet, vulnerable place of living it every day. When Shonté began experiencing hair loss, she found herself doing what so many women do: adjusting, adapting, and slowly, quietly, rediscovering who she was without the hair she had always known.

She learned about ombré brows. She found elegance in magnetic lashes. She stood in front of her mirror on the hard days and chose, again and again, to keep going. And somewhere in that process of developing in elegance, a brand began to take shape.

It was a friend who spoke it into existence: “You need a brand in your baldness.” Those words landed like a seed. Shonté recognized that her story was not just hers — it belonged to every woman who had ever hidden under a wig, a hat, or a carefully constructed smile, wishing someone would just say out loud what she had been feeling in private.

So she did. And B.A.D.D.I.E. was born.

Why This Brand Matters

Hair loss does not discriminate. It comes through alopecia, chemotherapy, postpartum changes, thyroid conditions, stress, genetics, and sometimes — by choice. It touches women of every age, every background, and every walk of life. And yet, for far too long, the conversation has been too small, too quiet, or too focused on fixing rather than embracing.

B.A.D.D.I.E. exists to change that. We center the voices and experiences of Black women and women of color — whose stories of hair loss are too often overlooked or misrepresented — while opening our arms to every woman who has felt unseen in her journey. Because hair loss is not a niche experience. It is a human one.

We believe that representation matters. That education matters. That knowing you are not the only one matters more than words can say. When a woman finds B.A.D.D.I.E., we want her to exhale. To feel the relief of someone finally saying out loud what she has carried in silence. To think: if she can do it — I can do it.

“Be Aware. Be Informed. And always be sensitive to someone else’s journey.”

This is our creed. It reminds us that behind every bald head is a story — and that story deserves to be told with dignity, with grace, and with the kind of bold elegance that only comes from a woman who has walked through something and refused to let it define her.
